We only use full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. It gets its color from natural plant based tannins which means it starts stiff, breaks in with use and can develop an amazing patina. Not only does it age beautifully, it does a great job at being robust. Take care of it and it will live as long as you.
Two closures, two different looks. The snap closure is solid and secure. it is as simple as metal on leather. The elastic band is a more traditional closure. A single motion that gets you in and out.
We love the feeling of the metal click when closing the snap so that has always been our favorite but almost all of us here started out with an elastic closure journal. We have all spent a lot of time using both styles of journal and we know you'll love them. We only sell what we know works...these work.
The Leather Journals use an elastic band system on the inside that allows you to slide out a full notebook, pop in a new one and keep going.
Each cover comfortably holds up to four notebooks at once.
Fun Fact: We once saw someone fit 7 notebooks into one of our journals.
The edges of leather goods tell you a lot about how it was made. Ours are hand beveled just to take the edge off and lightly hand burnished with wax and pressure, just enough to seal and protect without overdoing it. Heavily burnished edges truly take real skill and craftsmanship to pull off, but that almost artificial glassy polish isn't our style. We love for a little of that natural underside to show.
Corners probably take the most abuse in daily carry. Ours are cut to a .8cm diameter. It's just enough of a round to keep the edges from curling or catching over time, without going so far that it starts to change the look. It's a small detail, but it definitely helps the corners hold up in the long run.
Our mascot is stamped on the inside using archival grade ink, out of the way. To be completely transparent, we're not big on loud exterior branding, and we never have been. The outside of your journal is yours.
Every order ships in an envelope sealed with a metal stud. If you order from the Work-Bench then that gets wrapped in white paper and that's all. The paper in our packaging is 100% recyclable, and we always are looking for ways to avoid plastic when we can.
